France officially recognizes State of Palestine, says Macron
French President Emmanuel Macron announced at the United Nations that France officially recognizes the independence of Palestine.
“The time has come: In keeping with my country’s historical commitment to the Middle East, today I declare the recognition of the State of Palestine by France,” Macron said during his speech.
He emphasized the importance of doing everything possible to “preserve the possibility of a two-state solution”, under which Israel and Palestine would live side by side in peace and security.
According to the French president, recognizing the rights of the Palestinian people in no way undermines the rights of the Israeli people.
