US president’s special envoy consults Turkish officials on Armenia and Azerbaijan

The U.S. president’s special envoy regularly seeks advice from Turkish officials regarding Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani media report, citing Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.

He said that, through U.S. Ambassador to Turkey Tom Barrack, he obtains the views of Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and National Intelligence Organization head Ibrahim Kalin on issues related to Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Ukraine.

“For example, I call Tom and ask, ‘What is Ibrahim Kalin’s opinion on this issue?’ I could give many similar examples. Maintaining such contacts was recommended to me by the Trump administration,” Witkoff stated.
