Zelenskyy says he is ready to step down after war ends

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told The Axios Show that he does not intend to lead the country during peacetime, noting that his goal is ending the war, not remaining in office.

Zelenskyy also promised to approach the Ukrainian parliament to organize elections if a ceasefire agreement is reached. He noted that holding elections during armed conflict is complicated both for security reasons and due to constitutional constraints.

The Ukrainian president said that elections are currently postponed indefinitely because of the war. He stressed that the public may want a new mandate for a leader capable of making the decisions necessary to achieve peace.

Zelenskyy recalled discussing this topic with former U.S. President Donald Trump, stating that if a ceasefire occurs, he would notify parliament about the need to hold elections.

The full interview is scheduled to air this Friday.
