Trump presents new peace plan for Gaza

During a meeting in New York with Arab and Muslim leaders on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, U.S. President Donald Trump unveiled a new plan to resolve the conflict in the Gaza Strip, the Financial Times reports, citing sources.

As noted, the core security element of the plan is the deployment of a military contingent composed of Arab and Muslim forces to Gaza, intended to stabilize the enclave after the conflict ends.

Additionally, the U.S. proposal includes a provision calling for the immediate release of all hostages held by Palestinian militant groups.

The plan envisions that Israeli Defense Forces will return to the positions they held from January to March during a temporary ceasefire; after the formation of the aforementioned military contingent, Israeli forces would fully withdraw from the enclave.

Under this plan, Gaza residents would not be subjected to forced displacement, and Hamas would play no role in the territory’s administration. Instead, an international oversight body would be established to oversee the so-called Palestinian Committee. This body, which would include representatives of the Palestinian National Authority, would temporarily govern Gaza.

Sources indicate that the Sept. 23 meeting with Trump included leaders and representatives from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, Turkey, and Indonesia. Arab and Islamic state leaders responded positively to the plan but emphasized the need for greater involvement of the Palestinian National Army in post-conflict management of Gaza.
