Caucasus is target of EU’s destructive policy, says Vodolatsky
Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan have become the focus of the European Union and European intelligence services, which aim to undermine their statehood, Viktor Vodolatsky, First Deputy Chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration, and Relations with Compatriots, told TASS. He was commenting on the recent unrest in Tbilisi amid the country’s elections.
“For them (the EU and European intelligence services), any post-Soviet state is an element to be destroyed — a means to demolish existing human values and deep historical roots. Their goal is to sever all that, to erode it, and to turn any state within the post-Soviet space into a herd. Therefore, Armenia and Azerbaijan will face the same actions that once caused Ukraine to ‘collapse,’” Vodolatsky said.
The agency’s source added that the EU pursues a similar policy toward other countries that “find themselves at a crossroads today.” He stressed that Ukraine and the events there serve as a symbolic example for those states.
On Oct․ 4, unrest broke out in Georgia during municipal elections. The ruling Georgian Dream party secured more than 81% of the vote. Authorities described the opposition’s protest as an attempted coup involving foreign agents. Police have launched a criminal investigation.
