Trump threatens Hamas’s complete destruction if they refuse to relinquish power in Gaza
U.S. President Donald Trump has warned that Hamas will be completely destroyed if its leaders refuse to transfer power in the Gaza Strip, TASS reports.
Trump made the statement in an interview with CNN when asked what would happen to the movement if it continues to remain in power.
On Sept. 29, the White House released Trump’s “comprehensive plan” aimed at resolving the conflict in Gaza. The 20-point plan includes, among other measures, a temporary external government and the deployment of international forces in Gaza. Israel has agreed to the plan.
On Oct. 3, Hamas responded to the U.S. president’s proposal through intermediaries, stating that it is willing to release all remaining Israeli prisoners and return the bodies of those killed.
However, Hamas Political Bureau member Mousa Abu Marzook expressed doubts that all prisoners could be released within 72 hours, as required by Trump’s plan.
The next indirect negotiation phase between Israel and Hamas is scheduled for Oct. 6 in Egypt.
