It’s not peace, it’s a ceasefire dependent on one person’s mood: Highlights from Kocharyan’s press briefing

Armenia’s second president Robert Kocharyan held a press briefing. Highlights from the briefing are presented below:

  • Peace depends on Aliyev’s mood as the document contains no guarantees. One day he might have a bad dream and decide to take advantage of the chaos in the world. We propose a peace that will have guarantors, and the guarantor will be responsible for peace, not just a witness to the document.
  • The term “peace” is misleading as well. What exists is a ceasefire, entirely dependent on one person’s disposition.
  • If someone calls Trump via WhatsApp to report that Aliyev is not following the signed points, he would say, “I’m disappointed,” and do nothing — because that’s all the document provides.
  • Compared to others, the November 9 agreement could be considered a “dream document” as it at least acknowledged the existence of Artsakh.
  • In 2018, Pashinyan did not talk about peace because peace already existed. Now he talks about a peace agenda because it is him who brought the war into life.
  • Pashinyan is a lying biomachine, he just lies. He singles out that road with that very signed document; this suggests that the control over that road will be different from the others, otherwise it is absurd to talk about it separately.
  • These roads are not interesting to the US. We will not be the beneficiary of this project if it does not reach Yeraskh and enter Iran through Iranian Julfa. I insist that Armenia will not gain anything.
