Direct Armenia-Azerbaijan contact is primary channel for prisoner issues, says Ararat Mirzoyan

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said the issue of prisoners was discussed once again with Azerbaijani counterparts at the summit held in Egypt yesterday.

He expressed hope that their efforts would yield positive results.

Mirzoyan emphasized the importance of involving seven countries in the exchange of information regarding detained individuals, especially given that the International Committee of the Red Cross has suspended its operations in Azerbaijan, even though much of the work on prisoners had previously been handled through that channel.

The foreign minister said the issue is regularly discussed in communications with third countries.

“Nevertheless, the primary channel remains direct contact between Armenia and Azerbaijan,” he concluded.
