
Pashinyan and Pope Leo discuss Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process
During his visit to the Holy See, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met with Pope Leo XIV.
The Pope welcomed Pashinyan’s visit to the Vatican and his participation in the canonization ceremony of Archbishop Ignatius Maloyan and six other Blessed individuals. He highlighted the close relations established between the Holy See and Armenia, emphasizing the important role of the Mekhitarist Congregation of Venice in strengthening those ties.
The two also discussed regional issues, including efforts to achieve peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as humanitarian matters. Pope Leo congratulated the progress made in this direction and expressed hope that the establishment of peace in the region would mark the beginning of a new phase of cooperation and stability.
Pashinyan reaffirmed his government’s commitment to the peace agenda for the prosperity and sustainable development of Armenia and the wider region.
