Turkey launches ‘Zangezur Corridor’ project to expand Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway capacity

Turkey is implementing numerous initiatives in the transportation sector, Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu said.

“Turkey is one of the most important partners in the Middle Corridor and among the countries located along the transit route,” the minister said.

According to Uraloğlu, the “Zangezur Corridor” project is being pursued as an alternative route to enhance the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars line’s throughput. He noted that Turkey has already started work on the “Zangezur Corridor”, while construction on other sections is either ongoing or will commence soon.

The minister stated that reinforcing only the eastern and western lines is not sufficient, highlighting the need to create alternative and robust routes along the north-south axis as well.
