Aliyev and Erdoğan invited to Yerevan to attend European Political Community meeting, says Mirzoyan
Yerevan has extended a verbal invitation to the presidents of Azerbaijan and Turkey to attend next year’s European Political Community (EPC) meeting in the Armenian capital, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said during a press briefing.
He noted that formal written invitations have not yet been sent. When asked whether Aliyev and Erdoğan will come to Yerevan, Mirzoyan said the details have not yet been discussed.
Responding to a question about what is preventing the signing of a peace agreement with Azerbaijan, Mirzoyan stated that, although progress has been made on issues like the reopening of communications, certain points remain unresolved.
“For example, they believe we should amend our Constitution before signing, while we see no issue in our Constitution. If anything, we can better present that claim to their Constitution, that is, I am not saying anything new. In any case, there is no mutual understanding here, and there are no other conditions or preconditions,” Mirzoyan said.
Regarding Armenia-Turkey dialogue, the foreign minister said the process will yield tangible results soon.
“We have very intensive dialogue with Turkey. I am personally optimistic and believe that Armenia-Turkey dialogue will produce significant results in the near future,” Mirzoyan told reporters.
On holding meetings in the 3+3 format in Yerevan and Baku, Mirzoyan said: “We place great importance on the 3+3 format. While we discuss European integration and are part of Eurasian integration, this does not make our engagement with immediate neighbors any less important. Meetings have already taken place in other capitals; now it is our and Azerbaijan’s turn to host the format.”
