Georgia’s president supports initiative to ban several opposition parties

Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili has expressed his support for the ruling Georgian Dream party’s initiative to ban three opposition parties through the Constitutional Court, Gazeta.ru reports, quoting the president.

“When they harm the political system through foreign funding, in my opinion, conditions arise that such political parties should not exist in our political arena,” Kavelashvili said.

It was reported yesterday that Georgian Dream intends to appeal to the Constitutional Court to prohibit the opposition parties Coalition for Change, Strong Georgia-Lelo, and the United National Movement.
