Lifting of embargo reflects UK government’s confidence in Azerbaijan, says Bob Blackman

The lifting of the arms embargo opens a new chapter in UK-Azerbaijan relations. It reflects the UK government’s confidence in Azerbaijan as a stable and responsible partner in the region, Bob Blackman, head of the UK-Azerbaijan interparliamentary friendship group, told an Azerbaijani news agency.

According to him, cooperation in the fields of defense and security will naturally develop cautiously and responsibly, focusing on training, cybersecurity, border management, and the fight against terrorism. This is particularly important given Azerbaijan’s geopolitical location — bordering Iran, Russia, Armenia, and Georgia.

“We are also discussing the possibility of sending a parliamentary delegation to Azerbaijan to directly discuss the progress made since the pre-signing of the peace agreement (with Armenia) and to identify new areas for further cooperation,” Blackman noted.
