Maduro seeks aid from Moscow, Beijing, and Tehran amid US threats
Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has requested assistance from his Russian, Chinese, and Iranian counterparts because of threats from the United States, The Washington Post writes, referring to confidential documents.
According to the documents, Maduro asked Russia for missiles, radar systems, and upgraded aircraft. The letter to the Russian leader was sent in connection with the U.S. military buildup in the Caribbean region.
The documents also indicate that Venezuelan authorities requested military assistance and equipment from China and Iran to strengthen their defense. In a letter to Chinese President Xi Jinping, Maduro asked for an “expansion of military cooperation” to counter the deterioration of the U.S.–Venezuela relations.
