
Criminal case brought in Georgia against Saakashvili and 7 Opposition leaders
The Prosecutor General’s Office of Georgia has launched a criminal case against former President Mikheil Saakashvili and several opposition leaders on charges of sabotage and incitement to overthrow the government, Prosecutor General Giorgi Gvarakidze said at a briefing.
“Criminal prosecution has been initiated against Mikheil Saakashvili, Giorgi Vashadze, Nika Gvaramia, Nikanor Melia, Zurab Girchi Japaridze, Elene Khoshtaria, Mamuka Khazaradze, and Badri Japaridze for crimes against the state — in particular, for sabotage, aiding a foreign state in hostile activities, financing actions directed against the constitutional order and national security, and calling for the violent overthrow of the constitutional order or state power,” Gvaramidze said.
