Overchuk announces plans to expand exports to Armenia via Azerbaijan
Russia plans to supply Armenia with additional goods via the railway passing through Azerbaijan, including fertilizers, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk said in an interview with Rossiya 24.
“Recently, a very important event took place: the first train carrying Russian grain passed through the territories of Azerbaijan and Georgia to Armenia. That is, for the first time in more than 30 years, and for the first time since the independence of Armenia and Azerbaijan, a train carrying grain has passed. It was Russian grain, then Kazakh grain, and we are also discussing the possibility of loading this route with other types of cargo, including fertilizers,” he said.
Overchuk added that Azerbaijan has simultaneously begun its own supplies to Armenia, sending a train carrying petroleum products.
According to him, Russia and Armenia are discussing expanding bilateral supplies through Armenian imports.
“The discussion concerns ensuring return cargo shipments from Armenia to Russia via the territory of Azerbaijan,” he said.
