
Gallup survey says political situation in Armenia highly tense, church seen as a key source of social solidarity
MPG – Gallup International in Armenia conducted a survey asking citizens to evaluate the current political situation in Armenia. The results showed that 31.5% consider the political situation very tense, 31.2% consider it rather tense, 23.2% see it as rather calm,9.6% see it as completely calm, 4.5% find it difficult to answer.
Regarding the need for social solidarity in Armenian society, 73.4% of respondents said there is definitely a need.
As a source of social solidarity, trust is highest in the Church: 55.8% have full trust, 15.6% have rather high trust.
Other institutions and sectors received lower trust ratings: 27.4 percent trust the educational system, 17.8 percent trust state authorities, 12.3 percent trust the political sphere, and 8.2 percent trust the media.
Respondents were also asked to rate various public figures on a 10-point scale regarding their ability to guide spiritual and social unity. Archbishop Mikayel Ajapahyan received 7.2, Catholicos of All Armenians received 5.7, Gagik Tsarukyan got 5.5, Samvel Karapetyan got 5.1, Nikol Pashinyan received 4.7, Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan got 4.5, Robert Kocharyan received 3.4, President Vahagn Khachaturyan got 3.3, Serzh Sargsyan got 2.9, Raffi Hovhannisyan received 2.8 and Levon Ter-Petrosyan received 2.4.
