‘I told both sides: no trade — and then I’d impose 200% tariffs”: Trump on Armenia and Azerbaijan

U.S. President Donald Trump has once again spoken about his role in the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan and about a related phone call from Russian President Vladimir Putin.

During a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump stated in particular that he had resolved the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict very quickly.

“The war had been going on for 35 years. Putin said, ‘I don’t believe you solved it, because I was trying for 10 years.’ I solved it in almost one day. I did it through trade. I said we would cut you off from trade — no more trade. I told both sides: no trade, and then I would impose 200 percent tariffs. The next day they called and said, ‘Okay.’ A 35-year conflict, but they agreed,” the U.S. president said.
