White House says Greenland should be part of US
Greenland should be part of the United States as part of the American security system, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller told CNN. He did not rule out the possibility of taking control of the island by military means.
“The president has been openly stating for months that Greenland should be part of the US overall security. Greenland should be an integral part of the United States. No one will enter into a military confrontation with the United States over Greenland’s future. There is no need at this stage to speak about or consider military action,” Miller stated.
When asked whether military intervention was being ruled out, Miller avoided a direct answer and instead questioned Denmark’s claims to the Arctic territory.
“What is the basis for their territorial claims? What is the basis for the assertion that Greenland is a Danish colony? If the United States is the leading power within NATO, and if the United States seeks to ensure security in the Arctic region and protect NATO’s interests, then it is clear that Greenland should be part of the United States. Therefore, we as a country will consider this issue,” the official concluded.
