Trump says Iranian officials seek talks

U.S. President Donald Trump has said representatives of Iran’s current authorities have called and proposed holding negotiations.

“They called yesterday to negotiate. They want to negotiate. I think they are tired of taking hits from the United States,” Trump told reporters.

He also said that discussions are underway about arranging a meeting with Tehran.

Earlier, the U.S. president had said he was ready to help Iranian protesters if the Islamic Republic’s security forces begin killing them.
