Pope Leo says he doesn’t want to engage in debate with Trump
Pope Leo has said he does not wish to enter into a debate with Donald Trump, responding to criticism from the US leader.
“I will continue to speak out loudly against war, looking to promote peace, promoting dialogue and multilateral relationships among the states to look for just solutions to problems,” he said.
Earlier, Donald Trump had claimed that Pope Leo became pope thanks to him.
“We don’t like a pope that’s going to say that it’s OK to have a nuclear weapon. We don’t want a pope that says crime is OK in our cities. I don’t like it. I’m not a big fan of Pope Leo,” Trump stated.
Pope Leo is a sharp critic of Trump and has spoken out against a war with Iran.
