Political scientist: It is unrealistic to expect that any paper can ever bring about peace

It is unrealistic to expect a real peace agreement can be reached at the moment, because Azerbaijan has done everything to make this potential document intangible. Political Scientist Narek Galstyan said this in a conversation with ABC Media, noting that as far as real peace is concerned, it is neither agreements nor documents that will establish this peace.

“Documents play a minor role in ensuring peace. First comes the balance of power; second is the economic interconnection and interdependence between the states; third is the peace policy pursued by the governing elites. However, none of these three components can be seen; thus, it is unrealistic to expect that any paper can ever bring about peace,” Galstyan said.

With regard to Aliyev’s latest statements, Galstyan noted that we cannot be certain even about the points that are claimed to be agreed upon.

“We already know that Aliyev has announced there will be no mirror withdrawal of troops and talked about the unhindered passage of the Zangezur corridor,” he said, adding that Aliyev is an ambitious person, and if he has made a pre-election promise, he will fulfill his promise to cover himself with glory. While, the Armenian authorities will make concessions in order to conciliate the enemy, thereby compromising our security.
