Azerbaijan wants to leave Armenia without allies, so that it can be easy prey: Abraham Gasparyan on Aliyev’s statements
Nothing has changed; the very essence of politics is the same; the actors have changed only. In this year’s first episode of “Change the Channel With Abraham Gasparyan”, Director of Genesis Armenia Think Tank and Foundation, Candidate of Political Sciences, Associate Professor Abraham Gasparyan talked about the interview of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
“This constitutes a preview of a new, preemptive war; this is a statement about war. Aliyev has no way out: apart from feeding the domestic audience, he needs to justify his neo-fascist policy on international platforms and to say at the right moment, “I warned you, but you failed to heed my warnings.” The same policy — if you remember — was followed before the 44-day war. I remember it like it was yesterday: When Aliyev made such a statement back in February-March 2020, I first called on our Ministry of Foreign Affairs, voicing the necessity to change the rules of the game and stop that outrageous policy; my calls were, of course, not heeded,” Abraham Gasparyan said.
According to him, Azerbaijan wants to leave Armenia without allies or friends, so that it can be easy prey. This will, in fact, affect the balance of power in the region.
