The European Union conveys clear messages to Azerbaijan that a violation of the territorial integrity of Armenia by that country is unacceptable and will have serious consequences for the relations between the EU and Azerbaijan. Lead Spokesperson for the External Affairs of the EU Peter Stano said this with regard to the Azerbaijani president’s statements containing territorial ambitions and threats against Armenia.
“We have been in close contact with the leaderships of Armenia and Azerbaijan, steadfastly reaffirming our support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of both countries, and for resolving conflicts exclusively peacefully. Our channels of communication remain open.
The EU uses every opportunity to pass on clear messages to Azerbaijan that a violation of Armenia’s territorial integrity is unacceptable and will have serious consequences for our relations.
We remain firm in this position. President of the European Council Charles Michel, EU High Representative Josep Borrell and Special Representative Toivo Klaar remain engaged in the efforts to establish a stable and lasting peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan,” Stano said.
