The strategic interests of Russian and Armenia coincide; the relations between the two countries continue to be allied. Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopirkin said this in an interview to RIA Novosti.
“I proceed from the fact — not only me, but, of course, this is the position of the leadership of Russia — that our relations have and continue to have an allied nature. You know, there are many things that we historically have in common. There is no necessity to mention what our peoples have had in common during their centuries-long history,” Kopirkin said.
According to him, the countries today have a rather broad practical agenda of relations, concerning the key aspects of the states and the lives of people.
“I am sure that in terms of main issues, our strategic interests objectively coincide; this has been proven by both ancient and modern history. Therefore, I think it is quite right that the Russian side clearly states that our relations, despite all the problems, some misunderstandings and the attempts of the foreign actors to crack our relations — thus they advance their opportunistic and geopolitical interests — have had and should have a strategic nature,” Kopirkin said.
