The Turkish parliament has approved Sweden’s membership in NATO with 287 votes in favor, 55 against.
Many NATO members had earlier ratified Sweden’s and Finland’s membership, but Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan decided to delay the process and instead approve each country’s membership separately.
As a result, Finland completed the NATO membership process in April of last year, while Sweden has not completed it yet.
In fact, only Hungary has not ratified Sweden’s bid.
Sweden has not joined military alliances for decades, but came to this decision after the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
