Turkologist Gevorg Galtakyan stated on Pոլիս (Polis) the main reasons for the rapidly growing nationalism in Turkey and the impact it may have on the country’s foreign policy.
“Of course, the first question that arises is whether the nationalism that traditionally exists in Turkey has room for further growth. After all, nationalism in its variety can be seen in the ideologies of almost all political forces. As a short historical overview, I would like to mention that Turkish nationalism can be seen in all its glory in Ataturk’s speech captured on video, where he shouts, “Blessed is the one who says he is a Turk,” the Turkologist said.
According to Galtakyan, the fact that Erdogan had no scruples about using the word gyavur (unbeliever) in his last few speeches attests to the existence of hate speech. This is another indicator that Turkey never sincerely looks for friends, especially when it comes to non-Muslim, and why not, also to non-Turkish circles.
