Putin: Moscow and Kyiv will come to an agreement after all

Russian President Vladimir Putin talked with American journalist Tucker Carlson for more than two hours. The Russian president gave his latest interview to the American press in 2021.

During the interview, Putin spoke about the reasons for launching the special operation in Ukraine, the relations with the U.S., the terrorist attack on the Nord Stream, and the fate of American journalist Evan Gershkovich.

The interview opened with questions about Ukraine. Putin said he is sure that it is possible to reach an agreement: sooner or later, Moscow and Kyiv will come to an agreement, and relations between two brotherly peoples will be restored. He is sure that “the reunion will happen”.

“At any rate, we will come to an agreement sooner or later, and you know what, given the current situation, it may even sound strange, but the relations between the two peoples will be restored anyway; it will take quite a lot of time, but the relations will be restored,” he said.

As an example, he took a situation from the battlefield where the Ukrainians refused to surrender, chanting “Russians never surrender” and fell on the spot. Putin noted that “they still perceive themselves as Russians” and what is going on in their inner world at the moment, is something of a civil war.

“Everyone in the West thinks that the war has caused a rift between the Russian people once and for all, but that is not true. Reunification will take place,” Putin said.
