Abraham Gasparyan: Just leave! Going to war with you is nothing but genocide
Whether we cede territories or not, Azerbaijan will attack; it will be better if we cede and then a war breaks out, than if we don’t cede, and a war breaks out. If you think it is 50 to 50, don’t surrender, just leave. Maybe Azerbaijan really attacks and we resist? Co-founder of Genesis Armenia Think Tank and Foundation, Candidate of Political Sciences, Associate Professor Abraham Gasparyan said this on “Change the Channel With Abraham Gasparyan” program in response to Pashinyan’s statement about the lack of security guarantees even after the cession of Tavush villages.
“Let us resist without you and your pack, because going to war with you is nothing but genocide. This is a simple calculation. Let’s look at it together: If the president of Azerbaijan declares that he does not recognize the 1991 maps, if that is so, then why does he demand the four villages of Tavush? But if he recognizes the maps, then why did Azerbaijan invade Syunik Province and occupy high grounds according to the maps of 1991? In other words, Azerbaijan invades and takes whatever it wants without waiting for international permission,” Gasparyan said.
He talked about the good defensive positions of Armenia in those parts of Tavush, noting that Baku knows very well the difficulty of overcoming those positions, thus it prefers a peaceful cession.
“You will not be able to get a guarantee from either Europe or Russia that the Azerbaijani army will withdraw from the occupied positions of Syunik after the cession of Tavush villages,” Gasparyan said.
He also spoke about Pashinyan’s false contradiction between historical and real Armenias.
“At the time of historical Armenia, Azerbaijan did not even exist, nor Turkey. I think even a five-year-old knows this. But don’t perceive us as four-year-olds. Instead of the historical Armenia that you mentioned, Azerbaijan is making the historical map, it has contrived, a reality, and this is being done under your ill-fated rule, slowly, through a creeping war and in an atmosphere of fear,” Gasparyan said.
