Iran did not do anything unlawful by attacking Israel. Its actions are justified by Article 51 of the U.N. Charter, under which the response to the enemy attack is legal and just. Iranologist Harut Artin Arakelyan said on air on ABC media.
“As we saw, by violation of all legal norms, Israel attacked the Iranian consulate in Damascus, to which Iran’s response was appropriate. Iran took that step to ensure its national security and uphold its honor. Our neighbor considers this operation completed, but now Israel is faced with the problem of responding to Iran,” the expert says.
According to Arakelyan, this is the game that Israel has started and the tactics that it has chosen. Israel, seeking a confrontation with Iran, intentionally attacked the Iranian consulate in order to stop the proxy war between the two countries.
More than 20 hours after Iran’s attack on Israel, Armenia has not made any reaction, either condemning or supporting. What consequences may this step have on relations between Armenia and Iran?
“Iran is already familiar with Armenia’s lazy diplomacy of the last few years. I hope that Armenia, even if late, will react and condemn Israel’s action against Iran. As we consider our struggle for Artsakh to be just—a struggle that is for the sake of our homeland—so is Iran. It ensures its national security and attacks the enemy. I think, taking this into consideration, the Armenian side should support Iran,” Arakelyan said.
Analyzing the current situation, the Iranologist says that the region is fraught with many events, and Armenia must prepare for them by getting armed.
