Genesis Armenia: We condemn the campaign against Archbishop Bagrat, Col. Makhsudyan and Suren Petrosyan and express solidarity with the people struggling
Genesis Armenia Think Tank and Foundation issued a statement expressing solidarity with our compatriots struggling for the protection of Armenian national and state interests.
The statement reads: “In recent days, local popular cells have spontaneously formed in various communities of Tavush Province, showing determined resistance to the defeatist Armenian authorities’ policy, under which territories of the Republic of Armenia are given to the Republic of Azerbaijan, thereby collapsing the defensive line of Tavush in the northeastern part of our state and causing major security threats to the residents of the state and border communities.
The Police use brute force against those opposing this decision, which violates the Constitution and laws of the Republic of Armenia, ignores domestic legal and legislative processes, and detain dozens of people who exercise their right to resist.
In parallel, the regime that seized power—with its entire anti-democratic mechanisms, with the media satellites serving it and with its anti-national and anti-state propaganda machine—has thrown itself into a systematic discrediting campaign, targeting the churchmen of the Armenian Apostolic Church and public figures opposing the anti-Armenian policy of surrender.
We condemn the campaign aimed to persecute and discredit Primate of the Diocese of Tavush Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, who is leading this spontaneous movement, Mihran Makhsudyan, a reservist colonel who was taken to hospital with serious injuries, and Suren Petrosyan, a public figure who is facing political persecution and has been placed under illegal arrest on a charge of “hooliganism”; we express solidarity with our compatriots struggling for the protection of Armenian national and state interests; we demand that law enforcement officers stop performing illegal actions and abiding by the arbitrary decisions of the authorities, and show restraint when responding to the actions of our compatriots showing resistance.”
