Borrell: The EU has repeatedly warned Azerbaijan that any violation of Armenia’s territorial integrity will have consequences for EU-Azerbaijan relations
High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell issued a statement on behalf of the European Commission, stating that the EU is committed to supporting a stable and peaceful future for the South Caucasus region, and to this end, has been engaged in the process of normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
According to the statement, The EU has repeatedly called on Azerbaijan to re-engage so that sustainable peace can be established and has sent clear messages to the Azerbaijani authorities that any violation of Armenia’s territorial integrity would have consequences for the relations between the EU and Azerbaijan.
The statement says that the EU has stepped up its efforts to support Armenia’s resilience, promoting cooperation in all areas. Borrell noted that €270 million will be provided to Armenia in aid. In the area of Common Security and Defence Policy, the EU and Armenia have agreed to enlarge cooperation.
“The Council already agreed in December 2023 to strengthen the EU Mission in Armenia, which is an essential component of the EU’s efforts in supporting peace in the region. The EU continues to support the normalisation of relations between Armenia and Türkiye, which would bring tangible benefits to both countries and to the whole region,” Borrell said.
