Davit Amalyan: Now the time is coming when the state we have formed will get us back to the Homeland

ABC media’s guest was singer, songwriter, war participant Davit Amalyan. The singer is one of the active participants of the movement taking place in Armenia these days. Since the first day of the struggle, Davit has been supporting Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan with his like-minded friends. According to the singer, this is a movement aimed at returning values and goals to our Homeland, thus, it is doomed to success.

– How would you describe these times? What are the times for Armenia now?

– Right now, quite bright, because the end of the negative is close, I feel. Let’s remember Tumanyan’s “The End of the Evil”; the end of the evil is close… I’m not in the mood for political analysis; I know that it will definitely be followed by obscene comments. However, there are things that I cannot help saying. Six years ago, no one would ever make obscene remarks about the families of the victims of war; six years ago, no one would write bad words about people for having different opinions; six years ago, however, the field of evil became more “full”. I nearly know why it happened: material values simply became a goal, and material values bring men to protest actions more easily than any important value. Perhaps because of that corruption, people began to wake up, and now those who realize that the Homeland and a number of important values are in danger are standing against material values. Perhaps it was that that woke people up.

– In your latest interview, you said that this time you are more than determined. What is the reason behind your determination?

– Just at this moment, I believe in the return of the good; I believe in the end of the evil… Let the servants of the evil not imagine the end of the evil to be cruel; we will neither punish them cruelly nor lay them on the asphalt…

Archbishop Bagrat has literally become a commander for me. That person is an expert on Narekatsi Studies, a clergyman; he graduated from several universities abroad and never confused Tumayan with Nar-Dos like some people do. He does not speak loudly because what he says has meaning…

– Don’t you think that this is also a movement aimed to return our values?

– I don’t want to talk about my personal pain all the time now… Of course, I would give everything to have my son alive now, but now the loss of Artsakh worries me as much as the loss of my son… The territory is just a territory, but with that territory we also gave something important. Now, I can feel that important thing being returned; when that spiritual value is returned (let’s name it spiritual value), the territory will also be returned. The territory loves when it is loved… When it sees that it is abandoned, for example, what would poor Artsakh do during Nikol’s time in office, seeing that the leaders do not care whether it exists or not. This situation is closely related to the cultural decline that affected everyone after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Maybe it was God’s decision that we got such a slap; setting the cultural bar low led to the fact that we could not populate the liberated territories with people that were really needed.

-Davit, don’t you think that this struggle is not only an internal one in nature, but is also aimed at showing the enemy and the world that we do not agree with the arbitrariness in our country?

– Even in the worst of times, we have never had authorities standing by the enemy like now. They tell us that we want to bring war; listen, it is during your rule that wars break out. Remember how many victims we have had throughout this time. On the contrary, we come to make peace, because peace is established when the army is strong… Back then, the leader of our army was an actual leader; remember Vazgen Sargsyan and any of these ones…

-To what Armenia are we all moving together with this movement? Maybe the question sounds a little emotional, but I want us to define our ultimate goal.

– We are moving to Homeland Armenia so that the state and the Homeland will eventually become one… Now the time is coming when the state we have formed will get us back to the Homeland… Let our prayer become the glue that unites the Homeland and the state.
