Josep Borrell: Power is not only military power

In the modern world, the power of countries is not only in their military power; today, influence in any field can be used as a weapon. High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said this in an interview with the American magazine Foreign Policy.

“Today, everything is becoming a weapon; power is not only military power,” Borrell said in response to the question on what the “language of power” should be in Europe.

According to him, in today’s world, which is facing more conflicts, it is necessary to have leverage in different fields. The EU has such leverages, but now it must find the “political will” to use them.

Earlier, Borrell had said that the EU should learn to use the language of power.

According to him, in the past, the EU pursued the line of excluding the use of force in European politics because it believed that relations based on trade would eliminate the need for the use of force.
