Russian media: Putin’s patience has run out, but rapprochement with Azerbaijan and Turkey may help Pashinyan to hold power
The author of Voennaya Istoriya (Военная история) channel believes that the recall of the Russian ambassador to Armenia and his temporary replacement are the last steps before the complete severing of diplomatic relations.
“Putin’s patience has run out. Pashinyan made it so that Russia summoned its ambassador to Armenia to Moscow for consultations,” the author wrote.
According to him, the Armenian prime minister has openly admitted that he is “getting closer” with the West. At the same time, he repeatedly made strongly Russophobic statements and criticism.
“Thus, Pashinyan’s provocative statements had a certain purpose, but not what everyone thinks. The fact is that the goal of the West is clear and has been officially announced: to remove the Central Asian countries from Russia’s sphere of influence and make them unfriendly to us, like the Baltic countries,” the blogger noted.
Andrey Areshev, an expert on South Caucasus issues, believes that the support of Western countries, as well as that of Turkey and Azerbaijan, to Pashinyan’s government can thwart the plans of protesters in Armenia. “Foreign states are satisfied with the foreign political line adopted by the present authorities, which makes it difficult for the protesters to unseat the authorities,” the expert noted.
