Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan: Our target is not the minister of Internal Affairs; There is only one person in our country who disturbs inner peace
We gave our opinion about the police actions; our target is not the minister of Internal Affairs. There is only one person in our country who disturbs our inner peace, steals our peace, Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan said outside the building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
“I also want to tell his [Nikol Pashinyan] counterpart, the president of Azerbaijan, to get hold of himself because he announced yesterday that Armenia should recognize the so-called Khojalu (Ivanyan) massacre. I am not sure that these people will not meet this demand; they have not even responded to that. Now I want to address the head of Government here and his Azerbaijani counterpart to say that in Armenia, you have no party to negotiate with, Ilham Aliyev. We know that what you have in Armenia is a captive and slave who does what you dictate him to do. I am telling you clearly that your counterpart no longer has any authority in Armenia. You, too, calm down until we come and tell you what is what,” Galstanyan said, addressing the Azerbaijani president. Then he continued his speech, already addressing Vahe Ghazaryan and the representatives of the police forces.
“I am addressing Vahe Ghazaryan, a man with whom I have broken bread on various occasions. Perhaps now he considers us former friends, but it does not matter. I am here as a clergyman serving in Tavush, and as a man; I have come to talk. I hope that Vahe Ghazaryan will come down to give answers regarding this all,” he said.
The Holy Father noted that they should be held accountable for the police brutality.
“Do you call yourselves men when you, with 30 policemen, beat one person? It’s not accepted on the street either, you know? I know that when you go home, your families, as well, tell you that what you do is not acceptable in any way,” he said.
