Gohar Meloyan: Other states go to war for one square meter of territory, while we have left even a reservoir to the enemy

Gohar Meloyan: Other states go to war for one square meter of territory, while we have left even a reservoir to the enemy

If these authorities claim that they heed people’s demands, and that it is the voice of the people that is the main reason for staying in power, then they should have left already, expert in constitutional law Gohar Meloyan told ABC Media.

“The head of these authorities said that if more than 2,000 people gathered outside, he would cut off his hand; that if the square was filled, they would resign. As we can see, there has been neither a hand cut off, nor a resignation,” Meloyan noted.

According to the expert, the irony is that the members of the government who have violated the major provisions of the Constitution refer to the Constitution

“Border delimitation works are taking place today, which became the basis for this movement. And we are not talking about Artsakh anymore; now is the phase of concession of territories from the Republic of Armenia. Dear compatriot, you must understand—even if you do not support this movement—that the border delimitation process is illegal in that not a single international act in the form of an international treaty has been involved in this process. Other states go to war for one square meter of territory, while we have left even a reservoir to the enemy,” Meloyan said.

She noted that there is a signed document under which Pashinyan recognized Armenian villages as enemy territory, and Nikol Pashinyan has not denied this. According to the expert, this is a big bomb that the ruling power and various high-ranking officials may throw among their people, saying that these territories are not ours, so we are returning them. “Actually, these are Armenian territories, we have a law where these territories are clearly mentioned as part of the Republic of Armenia, and our Constitution—in order to prevent such situations—clearly stipulates that issues of territorial changes in the Republic of Armenia can be decided only through a referendum,” Meloyan said.
