International media: Armenia is one step away from disaster; Relations with Russia are becoming increasingly tense

The protests against Pashinyan, whose actions led to the freezing of relations with Russia, are led by Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, Al Jazeera writes.

It was noted that the Opposition is preparing for an impeachment process. If the process succeeds, an interim government should be formed and snap parliamentary elections should be held. However, the efforts are unlikely to succeed because the Opposition’s lawmakers do not have enough seats to push the process forward. The article also noted that Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan called for a “new dialogue” with Moscow. Armenia’s relations with Russia have frozen amid the Armenian-Azerbaijani confrontation. A few days ago, the relations deteriorated again due to the visit of the Armenian delegation to Bucha, Ukraine.

Tsargrad wrote that Armenia, which is now choosing a line toward the West, is one step away from disaster. Instead of improving relations with Russia and continuing cooperation, Armenia aggravates the situation by visiting Bucha.

Expert on International Relations Timur Shafir noted that the leadership of Armenia is clearly trying to show its loyalty to new allies, especially to France.

This behavior is accompanied by the willingness to sacrifice even the physical safety of Armenian citizens. “In general, the actions of the Armenian leadership may lead to serious geopolitical changes in the region. They can have both immediate and long-term consequences,” the expert noted.

According to expert Boris Dolgov, the reason for the Armenian leadership’s reorientation toward the West is the disappointment over the Karabakh conflict. Despite the fact that some people in Armenia are not happy with these developments, the political leadership considers the orientation toward the West to be correct, Dolgov noted.
