Western emissaries are frequent guests in Armenia, but the “mountains of gold” and the EU membership they promise to Yerevan in return for its undivided loyalty are just bait in a mousetrap, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia Dmitry Medvedev wrote in an article in Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
According to him, no one will open the “doors of the elite club” for the Armenian people. He noted that the centuries-old friendship of the Russian and Armenian peoples, strengthened by alliance relations within the framework of the CSTO and the EAEU, has long been a “thorn in the side” of Washington and its allies.
“Significant forces have been deployed to pull the South Caucasus republic into the Euro-Atlantic camp. Not for nothing is one of the largest U.S. embassies in the world located in its capital,” Medvedev said. He also noted that the resolution on strengthening relations between the EU and Armenia adopted by the European Parliament in March of this year is “in fact an ordinary piece of paper suggesting no obligations”.
