Borrell: If Georgia follows the same policy, the door of the EU “will be closed” for that country
The door of the EU “will be closed” for Georgia if the authorities of that country follow the same policy, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said.
“The door for Georgia to become member of the European Union is open. But if the government continues on the same track, continues doing what they are doing, this door will be closed.
Do not expect concrete decisions today, it is political orientation debate. But in the short term, there are measures that can be taken, for example: stopping the support through the European Peace Facility; or stopping the high-level political contacts; or considering to stop a part of the financial support that goes directly to the government,” Borrell said.
He added that they do not want such measures “to affect civilians”.
