Markedonov: The room for maneuver between the EU and Moscow is shrinking for Pashinyan

Experts consider Yerevan’s desire to change the vector from the Russian one to the European one to be an important event. Sergey Markedonov assumes it is all about the complete turn of Armenia toward the West. According to him, this initiative was most likely developed by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s Civil Contract partners, and the prime minister himself is trying to leave room for maneuver.

The thing is that this room is shrinking every day. Both Russia and the West expect a final decision from Yerevan.

According to Markedonov, if a referendum on EU membership is really held in Armenia, it will officially establish Yerevan’s foreign policy line, referring to the “people’s choice”. “This will not be a mere turn at the management level; things are much more serious here,” Markedonov concluded.
