Russia’s State Duma reminds Armenia how “courtship” with US may end
According to Aleksey Zhuravlyov, the first deputy chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee, NATO has been “flirting” with Yerevan for a long time.
“The military exercises, which, I think, are quite offensive for the Armenian side, are called “Eagle Partner”. They have been held for several years. The name of the alleged enemy is not mentioned, but all these joint military exercises once created the feeling in the Armenian army that the entire North Atlantic Alliance stands behind it. At the same time, during the confrontation with Azerbaijan, the Alliance for some reason ignored the conflict, and it was the Russian peacekeepers who stood between the warring parties,” the deputy noted.
Zhuravlyov added that such military drills cause Yerevan to move further and further away from Moscow. According to him, Yerevan is talking about withdrawing from the CSTO military alliance, relying on the protection of the West.
“The same thing happened with Ukraine, which thought itself to be a part of Europe. The West drew it into hostilities, from which it is now so difficult to find a way out,” the official concluded.
