Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Cambodia and Sri Lanka submitted a request for the status of an observer country in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, Mehrdad Kia, Iran’s national coordinator of the SCO Secretariat, told Izvestiya.
“Several countries have applied to join, including Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Armenia, Bangladesh, Azerbaijan and others. These countries want to change their status from a dialogue partner to an observer. We are ready to consider this issue and, in agreement with the relevant applicants and member countries of the organization, come to a certain conclusion,” he said.
According to him, “first they should become observers, and only after that they can become full members.”
