Blinken announces date of possible Iranian attack on Israel
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken told the foreign ministers of the G7 countries that the attack on Israel by Iran and the Lebanese Hezbollah movement may begin within the coming day, Axios news website reports, referring to its sources.
“Blinken told his colleagues from the G7 countries that Iran and Hezbollah’s attack on Israel could begin as early as Monday,” the website said.
The U.S. secretary of state noted that Washington believes Iran and Hezbollah will take retaliatory measures, but “it is not yet clear what form the retaliatory strike will take”. At the same time, according to the sources, Blinken said that the U.S. does not know the exact date of the possible attack but noted that it could start within the next 24–48 hours.
In addition, Blinken informed the G7 foreign ministers that the increase in the number of U.S. troops in the region pursues “exclusively defensive purposes”.
