Armenia changes its ambassador in Moscow. In September, Vagharshak Harutyunyan is expected to be replaced by Gurgen Arsenyan, an NA MP from the ruling Civil Contract party of Armenia. Arsenyan has submitted an application to renounce his parliamentary powers, Kommersant writes. While the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs highly appreciates Vagharshak Harutyunyan’s work, his successor intends to “change the algorithm of relations” with Russia.
As mentioned, the appointment of a new ambassador reflects the change in the course of relations between Moscow and Yerevan. One of the main tasks that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has personally put before the future ambassador will be the neutralization of the activities of the Union of Armenians in Russia, which is openly opposing Yerevan’s policy. It seems that Arsenyan will transform the relations with the Armenian diaspora in Russia, based on the new realities in the relations with Moscow.
