U.S. President Joe Biden is considering presenting Israel and Hamas a final proposal for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip deal later this week, Axios reported, referring to the U.S. administration.
According to him, the relevant information was announced by White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan on Sunday, during an online meeting with the families of U.S. citizens held hostage by Hamas.
Biden is going to meet with his national security team on Monday morning to determine the strategy for the final push regarding the deal, Axios noted. Israel and Hamas are expected to have a week to respond to Biden’s new proposal. According to the news website, Sullivan and Biden’s top Middle East adviser Brett McGurk told the family members of the seven U.S. hostages who are still held by Hamas in Gaza, that they “didn’t know if a deal would be concluded”. At the same time, they noted that there was a chance and said they hoped it might happen in as soon as two weeks from now.
