Assistant Foreign Minister of Iran and Director General of the Eurasian Bureau Demirchi Lev met with Russian Ambassador Alexey Dedov in Tehran. Demirchi Lev noted that the basis of regional cooperation in the Caucasus and the guarantor of stable peace is the respect of the countries’ national sovereignty, territorial integrity and mutual interests. During the meeting, thoughts were exchanged regarding the ongoing developments in the Caucasus, support for the establishment of peace and stability in the region, support for the development of cooperation between the countries of the region, struggle against the changes of internationally recognized borders and geopolitical realities and the positions of the two countries on the need to pay attention to these issues. The interests and legitimate concerns of all the countries of the region were emphasized.
During the meeting, the parties also highlighted the need to use the potential of the countries of the region to solve problems and contribute to the strengthening of peace and stability in the region and the implementation of economic projects, taking into account the interests of all parties. Questions regarding the upcoming meeting in “3+3” format were also discussed.
