NATO secretary general on threats to organization

Currently, NATO is not facing military threats, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said.

Reuters writes that the head of the organization gave a speech in Oslo on Sept. 5, saying that cyberattacks and threats of terror attacks are currently a problem for NATO.

NATO Assistant Secretary General for Defence Policy and Planning Angus Lapsley said on Sept. 1 that the member countries of the organization should increase spending on army development. According to him, due to the existing “scenarios of threats”, allied defense costs should exceed 2% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

At the end of August, the newspaper Iltalehti reported that the NATO leadership plans to deploy an armored brigade of up to 5,000 people in the city of Mikkeli, Finland. The settlement is located near the border with Russia.
