Armenia’s decision not to join the Council of Europe (CoE) declaration, endorsing the International Criminal Court (ICC) order on the “arrest” of Russian President Vladimir Putin, will be beneficial, Russian Federation Council Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Grigory Karasin said “Considering the fact that the so-called ICC took an anti-Russian stance some time ago and put our head of state at stake, such a decision of Yerevan will be understood by our society and fully deserves positive comments,” Karasin noted. According to the senator, the ICC decisions are directed against the unity and coherence of the stances of the post-Soviet countries.
Senator Sergei Tsekov said Armenia would completely sever relations with Russia, if it supported the joint declaration of the countries of the Council of Europe on the investigation of the International Criminal Court regarding Ukraine. “Either Pashinyan or someone from his circle has had enough reason to understand that this cannot be done under any circumstances,” Tsekov noted.
A few days ago, the Council of Europe justice ministers adopted a declaration following a conference titled “Towards Accountability for International Crimes Committed in Ukraine”. Spokesperson for the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ani Badalyan confirmed that Armenia did not join the declaration.
