Disobedience acts in Paris demanding Macron’s resignation

People are gathering in Place de la Bastille, Paris, to express their displeasure with French President Emmanuel Macron’s refusal to appoint Lucie Castets, the candidate of the left-wing New Popular Front (NPF) coalition, as prime minister and demand the leader’s resignation.

Leftists were also angered by the appointment of Michel Barnier, a representative of the center-right Republicans Party, as the new prime minister. His party took fourth place in the snap parliamentary elections held in the summer of 2024.

L’Est Républicain reports that the authorities expect up to 30,000 protesters across the country, with 8,000 in Paris.
